Elmer, I’m so happy to be able to help you. First, you will have to wait until the temperature rises above 68 degrees to use this system I’m going to recommend. Both products can be purchased from a company called Saver Systems. One is the cleaner, and the other is the blocker. Both products are biodegradable, contain no chlorine and are excellent for cleaning and maintaining asphalt shingles. Defy Roof Cleaner will clean the algae and mold growth over your entire roof. A side benefit of the cleaner is it also cleans vinyl siding and concrete and other unpainted surfaces that are stained by algae or mildew including tile and cedar roofs. You’ll like working with this product plus it’s economical and water-based.

After the roof cleaner has been sprayed down with water and dried you will need to spray the roof with Defy Stain Blocker to stop the mold and algae from reoccurring. This product is so good that if you reapply maintenance coats every two to three years or at the first sign of any stain reoccurring, it will help stop the growth from that point on.

I’m glad you asked about this because one of the biggest problems we have is maintaining our beautiful roofs. Because bacteria, mold and algae are airborne and one of the first things that’s attacked and starts to deteriorate is the roof, and this is something we’re not aware of until it’s too late. Another reason I like Defy products is because they are environmentally safe and they won’t cause more damage to the roof like other products do. - Murray
